Equity Board Brief #14

Updates & Diversifying Our Sources

Workshop updates

Hello Everyone!

After completing a workshop with our student leaders, I’m just so happy to see people engaged and interested in making a change in our newsroom and diversifying our coverage. For the student leaders who attended the workshop, thank you for coming. For those who weren’t able to make it, I’ll be sharing the recording and document links soon.

Diversifying our Sources

One of the main things we wanted to focus on this semester was diversifying our sources, which I want us to keep thinking about. When reporting, think about the intersections that are there, are there different perspectives that can add a new layer to the story? What community groups have something to offer for this story? As we round out the semester, continue to think critically about who we are reaching out to and what perspectives are missing from the conversation.

When reporting, think about the intersections that are there, are there different perspectives that can add a new layer to the story?

Lastly, here is a link to Annenberg Media’s Guide to Equitable Reporting Strategies and Newsroom Style where you can find more guidance: http://bit.ly/AnnMediaEquitableReportingGuide

Stay safe and reach out to any of the Equity Board members if you need help with anything!

Best,

Steven Vargas
