How to contact police and fire departments at and around USC

Pretty much every number you’ll need can be found with a simple Google/Bing/Yahoo search. But beware: “the police” could mean at least FOUR different agencies, depending on your geographic location.  On campus, the Department of Public Safety has police powers and primary jurisdiction.  Deputy Chief David Carlisle is the Public Information Officer.  dcarlisle@dps.usc.edu (213) 740-1934

The immediate vicinity around the campus is under the jurisdiction of the LAPD.  For major incidents, the LAPD’s public information office at department headquarters is your best bet, first. ( 213) -486-5900. For other incidents like robberies and burglaries, call the desk sergeant at the Southwest Area division: (213) 485-2582.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) patrols a significant minority of the neighborhoods within five miles of campus.  On highways (the 10, the 110, the 405), the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will have jurisdiction.   Their websites (and the CHP app) are helpful.
The L.A City Fire Department’s PIO handles calls relating to fires or rescues on campus or in its vicinity.
