All factual errors or misspellings of proper nouns MUST be corrected. There are two important rules when writing corrections:
1. We must be transparent and clear about the fact that we made a mistake.
2. We must say specifically what was wrong and clearly state the correct information. (Research shows specific information is more effective in combating incorrect information.)
Example: “Correction: A previous version of this story stated that USC’s graduation is on May 13. It is on Friday, May 12.”
