Once you log in, you’ll see the Arc dashboard
Click WordPress to write your story.
All stories are posts in the system. Authors can only write their own posts and cannot edit other people’s work. Authors also cannot publish their own stories; they must be sent for review. Only student managers (who are Super Editors) can publish stories and edit other people’s stories.
(If you need editor access as a student manager, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.)
To write a story go to Posts > Add New.
If you’ve worked with WordPress before, this looks similar to any run-of-the-mill system. Make sure you enter a Subheadline at the top and an Excerpt at the bottom of the page.
If you do not see an excerpt field, click “Screen Options” in the top right corner
Check “Excerpt” if it’s unchecked.
In the main editing field, you can type your story. If you copy and paste it from Microsoft Word, you should be OK, but there will likely be formatting issues if you copy and paste from Google Docs. Plain text is always best!
You can embed things in your story. A reference for embedding social media posts in our system can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BITDr6xt00_s0XIGI6W1KihgeoWvhA54mo9go3CGSKA/edit?usp=sharing
YouTube and Vimeo videos can be embedded as long as they are not private. Just paste the URL for the video in your story and WordPress will handle the embed. (You don’t need to use the embed code.)
To insert images, click Add Media and use the Media Uploader. You can upload PDFs and documents in addition to images if needed.
Once your story is finished, click “Submit for Review” and let a student manager know your story has been turned in.
NOTE FOR STUDENT MANAGERS: It will be your responsibility to make sure stories are put in the proper categories before publishing.
